Hake with mushroom sauce
To prepare hake with mushroom sauce, we'll use ingredients that we usually have at home.
Hake is a white fish that doesn't require a long cooking time and is juicy. It's also boneless, making it an ideal choice for children.
These are the ingredients and step-by-step instructions for preparing a hake recipe in mushroom sauce.
Ingredients for people 4
- 4 steaks raw hake Dolphin
- 300g mushroom
- 1 cebolla
- 2 cloves of garlic
- 200 ml of fish broth
- 100 ml of white wine
- 100 ml of liquid cream
- Extra virgin olive oil
- Sal Island
- Black pepper
- Fresh parsley
Preparation of hake in mushroom sauce
- Take the frozen hake fillets out the night before and place them in the bottom of the refrigerator. Once they're defrosted, drain them well on kitchen paper.
- Heat a pan over medium heat and add the peeled and sliced garlic. It's important not to let it burn so as not to spoil the sauce's flavor.
- Peel and chop the onion into very thin strips. When the oil is hot, add the onion along with a pinch of salt and sauté.
- We wash and drain the mushrooms. We remove the stems and slice them to add to the pan once the onion has sautéed.
- Let everything cook until the mushrooms are soft, then add the white wine. Turn the heat to high and wait for the alcohol to evaporate while stirring.
- Add the fish stock and heavy cream, mixing well, and reduce heat to medium so it doesn't burn. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Once the cream is cooked, transfer the sauce to a blender and blend until smooth. Alternatively, you can leave the sauce as is and enjoy the hake with mushrooms and onions.
- Cut the aluminum foil into large squares and add a little oil. Place each hake fillet on a piece of aluminum foil, add salt and chopped fresh parsley, and seal it like a wrapping.
- In a hot pan, place each piece of aluminum foil on the crease side (where the hake skin should be) and cook for 4 minutes on each side.
- The hake would now be ready to be served and we would only have to add the sauce on top.
Tips for preparing hake with mushrooms and onion
Cooking hake with mushroom sauce isn't difficult, but there are a number of tips that can help you take the dish from good to exquisite.
Here are some tips:
- Use fresh mushroomsMushrooms are a product with a very short expiration date, and we sometimes get them canned or frozen. It's best to buy them fresh the same day or the day before; they have a much better flavor.
- Alternatives for cooking hakeYou can cut the hake into chunks, coat it with wheat flour, and cook it in a pan with oil for 3 or 4 minutes on each side. Then, simply add it along with the cream and broth to finish cooking.
- Add a touch of citrus: Lemon and fish make a wonderful combination; when we cook the hake, we can add a few drops on top.
- Substitute the cream: Cooking with cream can sometimes be very tedious (and is not suitable for lactose intolerant people), so it can be replaced with a small glass of plant-based drink or milk and a tablespoon of cornstarch.
Is fish and mushrooms a good combination?
Fish with mushroom sauce is a dish with an incredible result and that is not very famous.
The mushroom and onion sauce is very well balanced in flavor, and does not overpower the taste of the fish at all, but rather complements it very well.
As each dish can be adapted in different ways, either by adding a little more spice, other fish, or using hake loins instead of fillets.
The best thing about this recipe is that it's very nutritious, since white fish like hake provides quality protein and healthy fats.
On the other hand, mushrooms are an excellent source of nutrients such as B vitamins, minerals and fiber.
So definitely, mushrooms with fish is an ideal recipe.
